Olefin

OLEFIN IS ANOTHER NAME FOR POLYPROPYLENE FIBER.

Olefin, or PP, is a synthetic based polypropylene fabric that was first created in Italy in 1957. Production was in full swing in the USA by 1960.

Polypropylene is the chemical name given to the compound we know as the textile, olefin. Chemically speaking, polypropylene sounds like a complicated process, but is in fact a greener fabric than cotton, wool, silk, or rayon.

Olefin's advantages are its strength, colourfastness and comfort, its resistance to staining, mildew, abrasion, and sunlight.

Olefin can be used by itself or in blends for indoor and outdoor carpets, carpet tiles, and carpet backing. The fiber can also be used in upholstery, draperies, wall coverings, slipcovers, and floor coverings. It is often used in basements due to its quick-drying and mold-resistant properties.
